Construction Materials and Structures

Level : Undergraduate Course

Course Description

Construction materials including concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and composites have different mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties each other. In construction engineering, basic knowledge on the properties of each construction material such as stress-strain relation is desirable for the design and production of structures. Although not all construction engineers need to be material specialists, a basic understanding of the material selection process, and the behavior of materials, is a fundamental requirement for all construction engineers performing design, construction, and maintenance. This course provides basic knowledge of construction materials to students and which include (1) introduction of materials engineering, (2) characteristics of materials used in civil and construction engineering, and (3) laboratory methods for the evaluation of materials.
